My friend Kat has two of the cutest girls in the world. Made from the exact genetic mishmash, they couldn't be more unique or different from each other.
When Kat was hunting for quilts for the girls, she was having trouble finding something that captured the qualities of sameness and uniqueness of her spawn. I stepped in and offered to help because little girls need quilts as special as they are.
I was sent some materials that had sentimental value to the family, as well as a mishmash of other pieces. I added a few pieces of my own to tie the whole thing together, and I feel like the quilts capture these Wonder Twins - sameness and individualism all at the same time.
This quilt is my traditional style of quilt, and belongs to the little blonde.
This one is from a really cool book called Patchwork Style. This book is worth the $13 just for a randomly crazy photos of the woman in the book having her eyes closed in almost every picture. And for the fact that she eats apples with spoons in the book. I mean, really.
Also, get used to this style, because like my old style, I'm going to
use this one a ton. It's by far the easiest way to quilt. You don't
have a to measure any of the fabric. Sign me up please!
Same components. Same material. Completely different look. Wonder Twins, activate!
Technically this is part of the Homemade Holidays series because each quilt took just 1.5 days to make. And one of those was a weeknight. I'll be posting next week on how to make the quilt on the right. Anyone can make one of these quilts, and still get it done in time for the holidays.

Love! Also love your wittiness on an other wise monumentally crappy day. Thanks for the chuckle...spoon, really?
ReplyDeleteHow do you take such different fabrics and have them coordinate so well. Born talent, learned skill or just luck? I can't even do that with my wardrobe, which consists of jeans (maybe yoga pants if I'm feeling adventerous) and white t-shirts because a) they are bleachable and b) I'm confident that white matches everything :)
I think it might be time to dust off my sewing maching lol.
Well, Kat is one of the most creative people I know, and she sent me most of the fabric. Usually I'm ok with putting things together, but it's because I just pick out things I like. I figure it someone else doesn't like them, I'll just keep it! ;-D
DeletePS, my non-work "uniform" is jeans and a white or grey Gap favorite T, Toms shoes, and a fleece. All boring. All plain!
Love these quilts! I've been on a sewing kick lately - these look easy enough to throw together for a holiday gift!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love making quilts for kids. The size is much more manageable and you can play around with new ideas. You did a really nice job.
ReplyDeleteI am so freakin' impressed with your talents!! Those are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOur family also has a set of twins like The Wonder Twins. If you want a peek, go here (http://www.iteachkdg.blogspot.com/2012/05/surprise.html) and go down to the 6th photo.
You even have the blonde curly hair wonder twin!!!
DeleteLove, love it! And, love the wonder twins as well. What cuties! My boys are close in age (a year apart) & are wildly different, both in terms of personality & looks. It makes life interesting & fun. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove it and can't wait to see the tutorial. This is something I have always wanted to know how to do.
ReplyDeleteThi is my type of quilt. One where you use scrap material and material from them. What great works of art you made for them. Good job.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful. And you say you can't sew or craft!?
ReplyDeleteI have wonder twin granddaughters. Don't even look like they are from the same gene pool. One is blond, blue eyes and whiter than you are. The other is dark skinned, black eyes and black hair. Their parents made the situation worse by naming the white one Irelynn and the dark one Scotlyn. Yep. Could've gone with Iraq and Iran for all they are gonna care in 7th grade!
There's something so special about twins! Makes me want some for myself!
