Smoked Trout dip

If after reading the title, your first inclination was to stick out your tongue and say "mleeeeeh", I'm going to have to ask you to just stick with me on this post.

Please?

My sister confessed to eating this behind a pillow at my parent's house in case she made a face.  But then she went back for more.  And so will you.  Pinky swear.

Smoked Trout Dip
1/4 tsp dried dill
1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
1 tblsp of lemon juice
1 8 oz package of cream cheese, softened
2 small cans of smoked trout (or other smoked fish)
1 green onion, diced

1) Open the can of fish, and drain any oil that is in there.  I got the trout at Trader Joes.

2) In a food processor, add the trout, dill, lemon juice, and cream cheese.  Pulse until combined.

3) Remove the mixture from the food processor, and put in a bowl or lidded container.   Add the Old Bay and green onions, and mix to combine.

Refrigerate for at least one hour to allow the flavors to meld.  Serve with veggies, crackers, or crusty bread.

And a healthy dose of skepticism for those of you who are still saying "meh".

  1. I'm sure a bit of oliveoil would go marvellously with it, or maybe crostinis with garlicky taste. Looks pretty good, though I'll admit the preparation makes me a bit queasy.

    1. I finally got passed it when I realized it was just like making tuna fish. The trout is cooked and everything.

  5. I have never seen smoked trout in a can. Is the picture what you see when the can is first opened? I eat canned smoked mussels and oysters but the can is filled with oil. I will be looking for smoked trout!

    1. I had drained the oil already when I took the photo. The trout is cooked and packed in canola oil.

  7. I love smoked trout dip (or pate as we get here...) and I don't even really like fish. That recipe looks divine. Now I will have to see if I can find smoked trout and make me some!

  9. There is a fish market at the beach that sells smoked bluefish spread. I am not crazy about bluefish because it's so fishy and oily. At first, I almost passed this by, until reading your plea to bear with it. After remember that I do, however, like trout, it started sounding wonderful! 2 cans of smoked trout is on my list to pick up next trip to Trader Joe's. Sarah, thank you for being someone who starts by saying, "mleeeeeh" when trying to introduce a fishy recipe :)
